On Style

I firmly believe that wedding photography style, just like style in society as a whole, is constantly evolving and that evolution is good. The important thing to me as a photographer is that there is some visual constant, a thread running through all my work that defines it as mine. I feel like I accomplish that and with almost 20 years behind the camera, it comes fairly effortlessly. That means I am free to view your day with almost full attention to it’s particular nuances without having to constantly worry about being artistic or expressing myself. That comes as a matter of course. What I do worry about is making sure that my two main goals are achieved for every wedding. First I want to make sure your experience on your wedding day is ENHANCED by my presence. I will never do anything, if I can help it, to disrupt your day and I will do everything in my power to help you enjoy every minute of it. That means that whenever possible I will be “hands-off” and just capture the day. That brings me to my second goal; to get you FANTASTIC wedding pictures. To do that, yes, I may from time to time gently nudge things towards some great light or suggest some ideas for portraits. The key to both of these goals is that I am fully aware of the organic nature of a wedding day so while you may be getting married to the person you love the most in the world, I am never married to an idea or a time line. I do my best to execute any shots you tell me are “must have” but most of the time, the best use of my ability is to flow with the day, documenting the moments and crafting fine, fun portraits that express who YOU are… even if it’s you with a little more drama than usual :)

I am always happy to answer questions about how I do things, either from a technical standpoint or philosophical. Don’t hesitate to ask.
